From Latin frustrated, the frustration is the action and effect of frustrating (put down or spoil an attempt ). It's about a unpleasant feeling that occurs when the expectations of a person they are not satisfied at not being able to get what was intended .

For the psychology , frustration is a syndrome that presents diverse symptoms. However, these symptoms are all linked to the emotional breakdown , which is lived on different levels and with multiple causes and consequences.

The impact of frustration on the subject varies according to the personality and to various variables that are difficult to control. Frustration can trigger psychological problems when he comes back pathological and professional assistance is required.

Frustration is a feeling of deprivation of a vital satisfaction . For example, a child who is an only child may feel frustrated if his mother becomes pregnant. When his brother is born, frustration becomes jealous and aggressive behavior.

Specifically, students of frustration come to make clear that there are three clearly defined ways of dealing with such a situation. Finally, the third way to respond to any frustrating situation is that of substitution. With it, what is expressed is that the person who is living that what he does is change it for another that does not cause that anguish.

Once the three response modalities have been explained, it should be stressed that among them, the one that is recommended by experts is the third, since it is considered appropriate to deal with frustration. While the first and second are not because with these attitudes it is not possible to solve the problem or make it disappear.

According to the theory of frustration, there is a paradoxical effect when the so-called extinction phase begins, which leads the subject not to reinforce the behavior and, therefore, the feeling of frustration ensues.

There are different types of frustrating processes: barrier frustration (when there is an obstacle that prevents reaching the objective), the frustration over incompatibility of two positive goals (there is the possibility of achieving two objectives, but these are incompatible with each other), the frustration over avoidance-avoidance conflict (the escape in the face of two negative situations) and the frustration over conflict approach-approach (Indecision in a situation that causes positive and negative results in equal measure).
